Summer Camp
We'll be heading to Rhodes-France Scout Reservation during the week of June 11-17, 2023.
Rhodes-France Scout Reservation (RFSR) is located southeast of Pana, IL, and is 640 acres of Scouting paradise. With two lakes, an in-ground swimming pool, excellent shooting sports facilities, and a well-stocked trading post, Scouts will never be short of things to do.
Please review all the details on this page and feel free to contact Patrick Powers at smatroop336@gmail.com if you have any additional questions.
Getting Ready for Camp
All Scouts will be required to have a completed BSA Health and Medical Form, updated within the past 12 months and signed by the Scout's doctor. Share this file with Mr. Powers or Mrs. Anderson and we'll keep it on file for the year.
Download and review the What to Bring to Summer Camp list.
Have your Scout review his camp schedule and determine if there are any merit badge prerequisites he should complete before heading to camp.
Packing for Camp
Please do not overpack. Stick to the Camp Packing List but remember there are a couple of MUST-bring items:
Water bottle — We'll be insisting Scouts carry one at all times to remain hydrated throughout the week.
Medications — Any medications your son may need MUST be given to the Scoutmaster in their original container, with the original labeling. This is BSA policy and it includes any over-the-counter medications such as Benadryl, Ibuprofen, etc. Medications will be locked up, stored away from Scouts, and distributed by an adult leader at the appropriate time.
Camp chair — They'll need this for merit badge classes, as Scouts won't be allowed to crowd around at a picnic table as in years past.
One note about packing: Try to make sure your Scout's swimming suit, towel and/or swimming sandals are near the top of the bag. One of the first things we do upon arrival is change into swimming suits and take a swim test.
Leaving for Camp
We'll attend 10 am Mass at St. Michael the Archangel on Sunday, June 10, and leave from the St. Michael parking lot immediate after Mass. Please consider joining your son and our troop for Mass.
Leave your electronic devices and mobile phones at home or plan on leaving them with Mr. Grate or Mrs. Anderson for safe keeping during the week.
Bring a little spending cash for the trip to camp — we'll stop for lunch just before checking in at camp.
The Week at Camp
This is a friendly reminder: Scouts are not allowed to have electronic devices at camp (even the older Scouts). Adult leaders will have their phones and can be reached in an emergency. Phones discovered at camp will be confiscated and returned at the end of camp.
If you think of it, also consider sending your son mail at camp. Since the U.S. Mail is notoriously slow, it may not be a bad idea to send it a few days in advance. Your son's mailing address will be:
[Scout's Name], Troop 336
Rhodes France Scout Reservation
Pioneer Point Campsite
815 N 500 East Rd
Pana, IL 62557
Mail is distributed each day to leaders at the daily adult leaders' meeting.
Returning from Camp
Camp should wrap up around 9 am on Saturday, June 17.
We aim to return to the St. Michael parking lot by 11 am.
